The excitement continues...
If you’re not obsessed with the chorus of this song already.. get ready to have it running through your head for a few weeks at least. In a good way.
You will have to click here to see and hear it.. because the band is kinda lame like that.

This week.
Alright.. so I’m not off to a super exciting start here on the “fun” front.. but work went really well this week… I know, I know!!
I witnessed my first Bunko party, right here in Utah. If you aren’t catching my drift here… it might be appropriate to ask your favorite Mormon girl. Even though my roomie isn’t Mormon.. but still.
Downtime was spent reading this:

True story.. so good. Saw it years ago in a NY Times Review, bought it, saw it again in an amazing DC bookstore (which I’ll definitely post pictures of wedding weekend), and here I am, having deprived myself for too long!

!Happy Birthday Miniskirt Murder!
I love that picture below. Not for everybody.. such an easy, open-minded viewpoint.
Anyway, today this blog is one year old. Here are some vegan cupcakes to celebrate:

Fatty fat fat. Delish.
So more important than cupcakes:
Today this blog is a year old. Amazing how the time flies by; it feels like just yesterday when I had to get over-the-counter-cracked-out for a week straight to build this dang thing. And sooo many things have happened in my personal and work lives in the last year. S recently asked me whether this has been worth it. Good question.. I had been wondering the same thing.
It has been fun, for sure.
I like to look back at the posts.
But, side note, I was playing around on facebook a few weeks ago, and I noticed that lots of my friends have hundreds of photos of friends, fun, parties, and life in general. I have next to none.. for several reasons.. a couple of which I’ll bore you with here.
First, while I do have a very lucky, very enjoyable life, I simply don’t go out for the typical “fun” that others do.. and definitely don’t bring a camera when I do. Hating alcohol realllllyy puts a damper on wanting to have fun people, you would be surprised. There are lots of reasons why I don’t do this, but let’s lump it in the category of “work.” I am serious for work, too serious, and so I’m committing to going out and about more often, especially because my new work is f-ing awesome and allows me to do that.
Second, and this one brings me to the problem with this blog, is that I am a very… driven… person, let’s call it. I have this picture in my head of what life “looks like.” Until my daily viewpoint matches that vision, it’s like I’m.. paralyzed. Work work work until it looks like my vision, and then I can play, play, play accordingly. This blog has really fed into “when I have this outfit.. I’ll do this.” Stupid example, but part of my overall mania definitely :) The point is, today is my life, not some future time, and I have to make my work and my play and my damned blog reflect that.
Long story short, I am changing MM.com into more of a current, personal story (with some fashion wishes still thrown in for good measure), than the current “I want this/that’s pretty” style that it has been previously. This (hopefully) means that (assuming I can figure out my broken camera) I am going to post more about my travels, what I am actually doing today (once I force myself to go out and have fun), and about things I’m reading, people I’m talking to, and stuff I’m trying (hello vegan cookbook). I think this should work out to more often posts as well.
So.. maybe that isn’t a big deal, but that change is going to be what keeps the blog alive. After all.. even I get worn out with shopping!

And just when:
a clean-out of my house put a cold-turkey stop to my shopping desires, I come across the new Spring 2010 Essie nail polish collection.

Do you see those three on the left, and the one on the far right? Damn. Is that a lavender-ey gray on the left?!? Aka me in a bottle of nail polish.
From here, which contains hilarious quote, “Some hooker had already bought Lilacism, so I wasn’t able to see it. Disappointment abounded!”
I still have 900 bottles of you don’t know jacques to contend with people. This is a cosmetic disaster.

Forgot to say:
I also got this dress with the bra and bikini shopping. It’s like Hillary’s super cute skirt. I’m thinking no belt, red shoes, or red belt, black shoes. Works with my long black cardigan from H&M (thanks for the tip Sab!) or a lighter jacket if necessary. Seems like a staple I will have for-eva, so long as the non-matching pattern in the back doesn’t kill me first.

Mark your f-ing calendars, and I mean it!!
That’s you: Amanda, Aundrea, Brie, Hillary, Kerry, Sabra, Valentina, Valerie L, and all you lovely ladies who are not stationed in Las Vegas!
Saturday April 3, 2010. Yes, the day before Easter, which I thought was always in March, but anyway, we are going to the Fashion District in LA.
Don’t bother RSVP-ing, because you’re coming. Kthxbye.

Don't buy this.

Because I already did. Or at least don’t wear it to the same bonfire party that I am imagining in my silly head. And you know where I got this: the BEST place to get swimsuits since eighth grade. Yeah, you know where I’m talking about. ps- bathing suit and bra shopping on the same (Friday) night. Hell. Let me tell you. I should have tried on a deliberately-too small pair of skinny jeans just to take it all the way. Bleh.
Oh, and if you’re saying “but wait, that’s not the black, pink, or girly ones below!” you’re right. I know I gave that whole song and dance about how long it took me to decide, but I swear! I saved a magazine cover with this really cute dandelion-yellow and white striped one from ages ago, and this reminded me of it. Ta da! (?)

Saying goodbye is so hard to do
With people.. it is of course far, far worse that what I am about to apply it to here.. my old shoes. I know, ridiculous. But yesterday I dug out every pair of shoes I own and put them in the front entry of the house. My poor brother was here.. and I felt embarrassed by the sheer number. Anyway, I told him I was sad to see them go, because I can remember how much I loved (and for many, still love) them, and all the places I had gone in them. He said, “That’s why it is bad to have a good memory.” I suppose so :)
So this is a little tribute to some of the shoes whose soles have worn almost completely through, the heels whose little protector things have worn completely off, etc.

Just a teeny sample. There are such cuter ones, but I threw away the pictures when I emptied my 6 billion pictures collection. Oh well. And, for the consumerist masses, please be advised that this is maybe..maybe.. a quarter of the shoes I have torn to shreds. This does not count the never-worn-give-aways, lightly-worn-donations, didn’t-know-I-had-these-but-would-definitely-wear, forgot-I-had-these-let-me-wear-right-now, always-wear, should-wear-more, etc. Yikes.
Just a few notes: wore the d’orsays on the bottom to A’s Christmas party, wore the bottom left ones as my new-lawyer staple at first job, bought the bottom right ones when I decided I was not a tomboy anymore (although I definitely still was by the looks of those), top left to my first real Las Vegas club outing (and my last one), top middle to last day of law school party night with The Garment from H&M. Sigh.
